Engineering

Given the bespoke nature of developments, there will be no two projects that can be executed the same way. Each development has its own specific challenges and obstacles to overcome. Infinity provides services based on our long collective experience and the lessons learned over decades of project execution.

CONCEPT PHASE

Concept phase (also called Concept Select) occurs after the Exploration team have discovered a field and determined the size of the resource.

Concept Select and the basic engineering that goes along with it is primarily involved with comparing all possible methods of developing the resource to determine the most economic method of extracting full value. During this phase, the Basis of Design is created allowing various configurations of different equipment to be compared in terms of feasibility, performance, and cost, culminating in a Development Plan outlining the decisions made.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Basic Engineering, Project Development Planning
  • Concept Review and definition
  • High-Level Cost Estimate Development
  • Milestone Schedule Development
  • Project, Layout, Schematic Drafting
  • Functional Specifications, Procurement Plans and Options Assessment
  • Structured Decision Analysis

FRONT END ENGINEERING AND DESIGN

Having decided on the overall strategy for developing the field, Front End Engineering and Design is the fine detail engineering work to fully develop all field layouts, equipment designs, installation spreads, installation procedures, and determine the tools needed to implement the development plan.

The key deliverable from this activity is the development schedule and project budget that supports a Final Investment decision.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Constructability Review, Risk Analysis, Risk Assessment,
  • Detailed Cost Estimates, Contingency and Budget development,
  • Execution Schedule Development
  • Subsea Production System Layout, Subsea Control System Architecture,
  • Mooring system design,
  • Structural design, analysis, and drafting,
  • Structural and procedural drafting

PROCUREMENT

Following a Final Investment Decision, the Procurement phase kicks off with orders being placed for Long Lead Items and commercial activities with suppliers of permanent materials, installation vessels and spreads, equipment and tooling, temporary materials, and personnel.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Authoring Functional Specifications, Service Specifications, Workscopes, and Supplier Data Sheets,
  • Authoring QA\QC Procedures, QA\QC Site Support, Inspection and Testing Personnel,
  • Inspection and Test Plans,
  • Procurement Support, Tender Management, and Tender Support,
  • Subcontractor, Supplier Management

CONSTRUCTION

The Construction phase of development refers to the fabrication and testing of the major permanent material assemblies to be deployed during installation.

Typically, the activities that are conducted during Construction occur at the yards and factories of manufacturers from whom permanent materials have been procured, using their internal resources but with external QA|QC and verification oversight from independent consultants.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Authoring QA\QC Procedures, QA\QC Site Support, Inspection and Provision Testing Personnel,
  • Provision of Construction Superintendents
  • Pipelines and Spool Fabrication
  • Inspection and Test Plans, QA\QC Checklists, and Inspection Activities,
  • Support of Testing Operations.

TRANSPORT

Transport refers to key activity of getting finished assemblies from the manufacturing sites to either a logistical marshalling site, or to the installation vessels executing the installation activities.

Schedule management and risk mitigation are key outcomes of a carefully executed Transportation program.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Marine Operations, load out, barge and rig tow planning,
  • Spread planning, Installation engineering, and construction engineering,
  • Marine Warranty Surveyor interface,
  • Vessel Management.

INSTALLATION

During the Installation phase, offshore construction vessels are used to physically deploy the finished major components of the field production and may include subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines, manifolds, SDUs, moorings, jackets, pilings, spools, EFLs, HFLs, or flow control components.

Installation incorporates the following key sub-phases with their own unique personnel and equipment requirements:

  • Hook-up: the physical connection of production spools, electrical, chemical, and hydraulic services between equipment,
  • Pre-Commissioning: post hook-up testing of all functions (mostly control system) prior to the introduction of hydrocarbons; and,
  • Commissioning: testing of all remaining functions following the introduction of hydrocarbons.

At the end of the Commissioning phase, the field is ready for start-up (RFSU).

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Provision of Client Site Representatives and Offshore Construction Managers
  • Spread planning, Installation engineering, and construction engineering
  • Heavy lift and load-out engineering
  • Temporary works design, rigging design, and lift planning
  • Commissioning support, commissioning procedures, ITPs and ITRs

OPERATIONS

Operations phase refers to the ongoing set of activities and maintenance performed to support continuous resource extraction that ensures that the equipment lasts for the economic life of the field.

Intervention operations are conducted during this phase to inspect, monitor, maintain, and repair the field assets such that assurance of their fitness for purpose is demonstrated to the relevant authorities.

The services that Infinity can provide during this phase includes:

  • Subsea engineering, subsea controls, and subsea operations
  • Operations procedures, and production system testing
  • Asset integrity management, subsea inspection, fitness for purpose, and criticality analysis
  • Intervention operation planning and execution
  • Inspection, Repair and Maintenance Operations
